Denny Jude, 81, of Gilbert, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026. He was born January 12,1945 in Gilbert, WV to the late John Jude Sr. and Minta (Simpson) Jude.
Denny shared many happy and loving years with his beloved wife, the late Shirley (Hatfield) Jude. Together they built a life centered around family. His family was one of his greatest joys, and he treasured the time they spent together.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Denny was the owner and operator of Jude Coal Company and also worked many years as an independent equipment operator. Through his work he earned the respect of many in his community and was known as someone who believed in working hard and helping others when he could.
Denny had a special love for cooking and bringing people together. He was especially well known for his open-fire roasted chickens, which became a favorite among friends and neighbors. For many years he also hosted an annual chili cook-off, creating memories and laughter for all who attended. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hunting trips with his brothers and friends, moments he cherished deeply.
A man of faith, Denny was a Christian and of the Freewill Baptist faith. He loved the Lord, his family, and the many friends who filled his life with companionship and fellowship. His home was always a welcoming place, and he truly enjoyed the visits, stories, and laughter shared with those he loved.
Denny was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley (Hatfield) Jude; his son, Scott “Rocky” Seafeldt; six brothers, John Jude Jr., Jack Jude Sr. , Roy Jude Sr., Sonny Jude Sr., Dexter Jude Sr., and Rex Jude; and two sisters, Judy Jude and Beulah Jude.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Jesse Jude Sr.; his sisters, Martha (Lgleason) Adkins and Naomi Harrison; along with many extended family members, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and friendship; his special niece, Amy Jude, who called and visited him frequently; and his special caregiver Emily Pack who took such good care of him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Collins Funeral Home Chapel, Switzer, WV. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service commencing at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Browning and Rev. Roger Endicott officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, West Virginia.
