Derek Scott Hjerleid

Derek Scott Hjerleid, age 55, of Brookfield, MO; passed away Saturday morning, January 17, 2026.

Derek Scott was born on July 10, 1970, to Barbara Faye (Brown) and Stanley Orin Hjerleid Jr. in Laramie, WY. Derek enjoyed going hunting and fishing. He was a jack of all trades, working on cars, doing home improvements, and even working on computers. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Derek was a kind gentle person with a big heart, and he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and wit.

Derek is survived by his significant other for over thirteen years, April Parsons; two daughters, Bailee Hjerleid and Kyla Hjerleid; his mother, Barbara Scott; his father, Stanley Hjerleid; one sister, Krista Shuetz; and several other relatives.

There are no scheduled services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, MO.

April wrote this poem for Derek

Because of you, I learned so much – gratitude, patience, pain,

and tho it hurts like hell right now – I'd do it all again.

It's us against the world – a promise that held true to our last day,

you'll never know how you changed my life – there's just too many ways.

You were definitely one of the good ones, best man I'll ever know –

just one of the reasons, I don't know how I'm supposed to let you go.

You were a man with such integrity – who gave all that he could give –

your life became your legacy, as you showed me how to live.

I'll carry you with me always – but now you're free to fly,

give miss Kaya a kiss for me – this is see you later, Never Goodbye….
