With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Derek Steven Hutzell, who left this world at the age of 34 at his home in Albany, Georgia.
Graveside funeral services will be held graveside at Leesburg Cemetery Friday, June 20th, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate.
Derek was born in Austell, Georgia to Virginia and the late Steven Hutzell. He spent his early years growing up in Georgia and Indiana, eventually graduating high school in Mississippi. He moved to Albany, Georgia in 2010, residing here until his passing. While living here, he worked for many years at Pratt Industries following the footsteps of his father, Steven, and his uncle, Russell. Derek met the mother of his child while in Albany and began a family in 2017, when he welcomed his greatest joy, his daughter Harper, whom he loved dearly.
Derek was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, and friend to many – and he was deeply loved.
Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Delores Wojohn, and Donna and Russell Hutzell Sr. His father, Steven Hutzell, cousin Scott Hutzell, and brother-in-law Terry Jeffries.
Survivors include his daughter, Harper Hutzell, of Leesburg, Georgia, mother, Virginia Hutzell, of Charles City, Iowa, sister, Chasity (Andy) Keith, nephew, Jadon Jeffries, niece, Kaitlyn Jeffries of Douglasville, Georgia, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Derek will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the many stories, memories, and laughs he gave to the people fortunate enough to know him.
