DeRell Que Jones, age 90, our cherished father, was reunited with his beloved wife of 57 years on August 27, 2025, in Gunnison, Utah.
Born on August 7, 1935, in Huntington, Utah to Benjamin Que and Uenna Mable Marshall Jones, he was the second child and first son among thirteen siblings. Raised in Huntington, he attended school locally before moving with his family to Manti, where he worked alongside his father at J and J Auto. From an early age, he showed a remarkable work ethic and mechanical skill.
DeRell served in the Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After returning home, he was employed by Manti City in several positions over the years, lastly as one of the last Manti City Police officers, designated 2Q4. Deeply rooted in the community, he was recognized for his gentle humor, steadfast kindness, and quiet wisdom.
He volunteered with Sanpete Search and Rescue, worked for Sanpete County, and retired from the Utah State Correctional Facility in Gunnison in 2002 as one of its original officers. In his later years, he became known as the bingo caller at the Manti Senior Citizen’s Center, where he loved spending time with friends and neighbors. He always claimed that his many life experiences made him a “jack of all trades and master of none.”
DeRell’s generosity and warmth touched countless lives, never seeking recognition for himself but always supporting others. His life was marked by devotion to family, faith, hard work, and simple pleasures.
On December 16, 1964, DeRell married Linda Fay Minchey in Manti. Together they had four children: Lori Voshall (Manti), Teresa (Tim), Nelson (Brea, California), Misty (Randy) Wiley (Juneau, Alaska), and Jason DeRell Jones (Page, Arizona). He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Samantha Wiley, Dakota Nelson, Remington Wiley, AnnaRose Voshall, and Savannah Nelson.
DeRell was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Judy Pederson, Roger Jones, Wilma Gregerson, LaRae Crisp; wife, Linda; son-in-law, Ron Voshall; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, including special sister-in-law Pat Burtenshaw. He also deeply missed many friends who have passed on before him.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren; sisters Lawana Hale (LaVerkin, Utah), Nan Edwards (Manti, Utah), Dixie Prisbrey (St. George, Utah), Janis (Max) Jensen (Springville, Utah), Connie DeMille (Manti, Utah), and Joy Johnson (Manti, Utah); brothers Ron (Sandra) Jones (Page, Arizona) and DeLon (Mone) Jones; brother-in-law Sonny Minchey (Richfield, Utah) and sister-in-law Fawnda Olsen (Spring City, Utah), and their families, who will fondly remember Uncle DeRell’s sourdough pancakes and donuts.
We were blessed to have DeRell as our father and grandfather and though we will miss him deeply, we rejoice knowing he is reunited with Mom, whom he missed dearly. It’s not goodbye, just goodnight. Until it is morning time again Merry Sunshine. We love you, Dad.
