Derrel "Edwin" Scruggs, age 74, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1951, in Corsicana, Texas to Orville B Scruggs & Bernice Bradshaw Scruggs. Edwin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication. He was preceded in death by his parents Orville B Scruggs & Bernice Bradshaw Scruggs, beloved wife of 40 years, Deborah Dee Scruggs Watson; his brother, Orville B. Scruggs Jr.; his sister, Levern Fitch and her husband Fred Fitch; his brothers-in-law, Roy Bailey and John Carter; and his grandson, Briar Scruggs. Ed worked for Big Brown Mine for 40 years, where he made lasting friendships and contributed to the community. He was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys, always enjoying the thrill of the game, and looked forward to hunting trips with his son in New Mexico. A talented woodworker, Edwin took pride in creating beautiful pieces with his hands. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially during the Christmas season and the family reunions that brought everyone together. Ed is survived by his son, Shane Scruggs and wife Lisa; his daughter, Chris Haley; his sisters, Nell Carter; Veda Norwood and husband John Norwood, Zo Bailey, his brother, Terry Scruggs and wife Dora and sister n law Traudl Scruggs. He was a proud grandfather to Wyatt Scruggs, Josey Oney and husband Josh; Lucas Gilbert and wife Jacklyn; Kole Haley and wife Kandace; Kala Haley; and Kelsie Threlkeld and wife Bethany. And numerous great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ed's faith, resilience, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. For many years, he was a dedicated member of Lakeside Methodist in Streetman, TX, where his commitment to God, his church family, and his community was unwavering. Though his battle with Leukemia was 14 years long, Ed's strength and hope never faltered. He faced each challenge with grace, and his unwavering faith brought him comfort during the most difficult of times. While we will miss him dearly, we find peace knowing that Ed was ready to be with our Lord. Ed's legacy will live on through the memories and love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8pm at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:00am in the Chapel at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grape Creek Cemetery.
