This reminder was bitter sweet! Time passes swiftly ! As I think of Derrick, I´ll always remember his genuine Smile and concern in helping others. Such a gentleman. :) I met Derrick at SUBR in the Spring of 2014, I returned to the University at the young age of 52! He really assisted me along the way to get my footing! I´m grateful to our GOD for allowing our paths to cross, and he´ll Never be forgotten !!! To the family, to GOD be the Glory...Abba FATHER Graced Us

That smile - oh what a smile! We clicked the first time I met him when he worked in the Registrar's Office, we began a friendship. I gave him the pet name "Messy" and he called me "Trouble-maker." You definitely lost a gem. Condolences to your family during this troubling time.

Derrick Cavazos was a kind, patient. and humble man. He was my History Professor. Every time I needed help in the Registrar office he never seem tired of helping me or any students. I remember seeing him and I told him he looked completely different and he was basically skipping and just smiling. I said, something good is going on you look different. He said, "you are right, I have a new daughter and I am so happy ",he was so proud of his new baby. My prayers are with his family, wife, and daughter.

Derrick was my nephew by marriage to my niece Lauren. Everything the Obituary said about his spirit and personality shined true to me. He had a bright, winning smile. I live in Chicago, and had future plans of spending time with the family, and getting to know Derrick better, and more personally, which we did not get a chance to do, but we kept in touch through Facebook. My love & prayers are with the family during this very difficult time. A life cut short way too soon. He had yet so much more to offer our Society. God alone knows the grief and will carry us all through. Earth has no sorrow, that Heaven can not heal! Much love to my niece Lauren, my great niece Juliana, my Sister Joyce and the rest of the family...

The world has lost a beautiful soul. My class mate, my friend, my brother, I will cherish the beautiful memories we shared. I loved celebrating your birthday with you every year and just being in your orbit. To say you won´t be forgotten is an understatement. To Parker and Ms. Gwen, thank you for sharing this phenomenal man with us. Our lives are better for it. You have my deepest sympathy.
