Derrick McCorde Hendrickson 67, formerly of Jamaica, Queens New York, passed away on Thursday March 7, 2024 in Albuquerque New Mexico.
Derrick, affectionately known in Albuquerque as,” Jamaica” was born on the island of Nevis on May 25, 1956, to Walter and Clementine Hendrickson.
He was raised by his grandmother until 1964; he then migrated to St Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to live with his mom and dad.
The family moved to Jamaica, Queens New York in the early 70’s, and Derrick graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1975. After High School, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to attend the University of New Mexico and studied Electrical Engineering. While completing his education, he returned to New York, and married Carlene Dinnall, with whom he has two wonderful children. During his time in New York, he was also fortunate to have a beautiful daughter with Maxine Turner.
Throughout his professional life, he found his nitch in the health field. Derrick worked at Queens Manor in Jamaica, New York as a dietician, working with the elderly. He was also a Phlebotomist at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and, at Lab-Core in Queens New York.
Later on in life, Derrick lived in Wakeforest, North Carolina with his sister Marsha Hendrickson, caring for his mom Clementine. He came back to Albuquerque to be a Health Care Provider and to take care of his mom. During his time in Albuquerque, he had a longtime companion, Kimberly Richardson, with whom he has two handsome sons.
Today, let us celebrate the life of a great Father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. “Jamaica’s” greatest pride and joy were his children. From first to the last. At any moment with or without a prompt, Derrick would light up and recount the “What, Where, When and How” of their lives. Derrick had a delightful smile, a shower of warmth and a peaceful countenance. A death so soon, painful and sudden, could only have bought peace as life Waned.
Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Clementine Hendrickson, his sisters, Yvette Pringle, Shirley Pemberton and Lornette Hendrickson.
He is survived by his Dad Walter Samuel Hendrickson of Queens, New York
And his children: Of Queens New York, Derrick McCorde Hendrickson Jr., His daughter Telleshia Simmone Hendrickson, Grandaughter: Yashio Thompson-Ovid, Grandsons; Gary Peters and Gavyn Peters; Daughter Sherie Byrd (Husband Brandon Byrd), Grandsons: Dylan, and Cameron Byrd, Sons of Albuquerque New Mexico: Jashi Hendrickson Richardson, and Jayden Hendrickson Richardson.
