SOUTHBRIDGE: Derrick D. Thompson, aged 40, of Twinhurst Place, passed away on October 22, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital after a sudden illness.
Derrick is survived by his beloved daughter, Demyah Thompson, and his devoted mother, Cassandra Mercado of Southbridge. He leaves behind three brothers: Jason Mercardo of Georgia, Ronald James of Southbridge, and Marquis Mercardo of Southbridge, along with his sister, Tiffany Thompson of North Carolina. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, his cousins and a close friend, Kaidy Ramirez, who is the mother of his daughter and resides in Southbridge.
He was predeceased by his father, Derrick Thompson.
Born in Boston, Derrick spent many years in Southbridge, where he graduated from Southbridge High School in 2004. He dedicated 14 years of his career to the Southbridge School system before transitioning to work as a PCA-Home health aide.
Derrick was a passionate sports enthusiast who delighted in writing music and cooking meals for his family. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his daughter.
Derrick’s warmth, creativity, and dedication will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, November 1st at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, located at 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA.
