Deryl Floyd Krause, born January 3, 1958 in Kalispell, Montana, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2025 listening to tall tales told by his brother Kirk. He left with memories of a life full of adventure; logging, fishing, farming, racing cars, and beloved dog mushing. He liked to get worked up discussing conspiracy theories. Passed on his knack for napping and lack of respect for money (aka racing) to his son Kyle. In between his passion for hard work, he also spent time making lifelong friends working in the 302 at Clear Space Force Station. His grandchildren always had a place doing the fun chores at the farm, and defended them when called out by their parents. Dedicated throughout his cancer battle, up until he left us Deryl's main concern was making sure his wife Deanne was nearby and cared for.
The Krause's moved to Fairbanks in August 1968, Nenana in 1974 and Deryl graduated high school there in 1976. He raced Jr. Dog Mushers 1968-76 and never lost the passion for running dogs. He won the Minto 90 in 2012, raced out of state with Charlie Stevens and raised and trained many Iditarod team and sprint dogs. He was also a Nenana volunteer firefighter in the 1980's.
Deryl is preceded in death by his brother Dick, mother Dorothy, father Floyd, stepdaughter Jessica Stephens, and nephew Kevin Krause.
Deryl is survived by his wife Deanne Baker Krause, son Kyle Krause (Anesha), brother Kirk Krause (Dhana), stepson Travis Banning (Patricia); grandchildren Devin, Tanner, Alexandria, Courtney, Trenton, Amanda, Isaac, Kahlan, Alexys, Deanne, Elliot, and Jerry; nieces Danielle Chihuly (John), Erin Krause (Brad), Kristina Thomas (Avery), great nieces and nephews Dillon, Ian, Renee, Shayne, Konnor, Madilynn, Rowan, Jakob, and Cole.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 2pm at the Nenana Civic Center with potluck to follow at 4pm. In lieu of flowers or cards please donate to a Dog Mushers Association (e.g. Alaska Dog Mushers Association, Jr. Dog Mushers of Interior Alaska) or sponsor a local dog musher in his memory.
