Despina Thomas Bremis A Life of Faith, Service, and Unconditional Love
Despina Bremis was a remarkable woman whose life embodied compassion, faith, and resilience. Born and raised in Chios, Greece, she immigrated to the United States in her early twenties. As a young woman, she was an advocate for the poor and a passionate voice for democracy. Gifted and multilingual, she spoke Greek, English, and French fluently, and taught French in Greece.
Despina's life was one of selfless service. She taught her family that the true purpose of life is not personal ambition, but kindness, empathy, and faith. Her unwavering belief in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life-a faith so deep and radiant that it served as a testimony to all who knew her.
Despina Bremis's legacy lives on through every act of compassion and love shown by those she raised and inspired. Her life was her ministry, her faith her foundation, and her family her greatest gift. There is no greater legacy than hers.
Bremis, Despina (Thomas) of Lexington, died peacefully on November 1st. Beloved wife of the late John S. Bremis and loving mother of Dimitrios Bremis of Lexington, Irene John Bremis and her husband Stephen Cunningham of NY and Joanna Bremis of Lexington. Sister of John Thomas, Joanna Nerantzis, Markella Spertos and the late Anastasia Moutafis, the late Nicolas Thomas and the late George Thomas. Also survived by her many nieces, nephews and family. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Saint Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday from 10:00 - 11:00 am and to her funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial to follow in Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
