Devon LaRoyce Shade was born on July 23rd, 1992, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He is the first-born son of Ms. Deana Lynn Shade-Thomas of Hephzibah, Georgia.
Devon attended elementary school in Augusta, Richmond County before attending Louisville Middle School located in Jefferson County, Georgia. Devon later attended Jefferson County High School where he was referred to affectionately by his friends and coaches as “Shade”. He played both basketball and football for the Jefferson County Warriors.
During his junior year in high school, Devon accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized at the Roberson Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Georgia where he fellowshipped and occasionally ushered.
Devon graduated from Jefferson County High School in Louisville, Georgia in 2011. Before his graduation, he received a four-year football scholarship to Albany State University. After leaving Albany State University, Devon attended commercial truck driving school in Ohio. Once he obtained his CDL, he began his career, traveling across the country as a long-haul, flat-bed truck operator. Shade was also an avid car-enthusiast, spending his home time participating in the car club activities of the Augusta Chapter of the Crown Vic Boys.
Devon LaRoyce Shade leaves to cherish his memory, his mother: Deana Lynn Shade- (Kenneth)Thomas; father: Eric Glenn Phillips; four brothers: Micah Xavier, Eric Jr., Aaron, and Solomon; four sisters: Ashley, Erica, Kennedy, and Tajanna; and paternal grandmother: Earlean Dorsey, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Devon is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dewey Phillips, and maternal grandparents: Henry and Margaret Sconiers Shade of Hephzibah, Georgia.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Devon’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at The Roberson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 985 GA Highway 24 W in Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia 30830.
