DeWayne Anderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutchinson Funeral Chapel on Oct. 20, 2025.
DeWayne" Duke" Laurence Anderson, 68, passed away at The University of Kansas Health System- St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS. He was born on January 27, 1957, in Atwood, KS, the son of Irvin Truman and Madonna Lee (Huss) Anderson.

Duke graduated from Colby High School in 1975. He worked as a hydraulic mechanic for Western Geophysical and Combatel Distribution. On June 5, 2015, Duke married Yvonne Griffin in Topeka, KS.

Duke's spirit will live on in every cast of a fishing line, every rev of a motorcycle engine, and every gathering of old friends. He may have taken his last ride, but the trail he blazed will be forever marked by the memories he created.

When not in the wild, he could be found on the open road on his motorcycle, with the wind in his face and his friends by his side. A familiar and welcome presence in the local riding community, his love for the freedom of the ride was only surpassed by his loyalty to his riding buddies. He treasured time spent with his family and friends. The backyard barbecues, late night talks and shared laughter were the moments that defined him. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back and a cold beer to anyone who needed it. His infectious laugh and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tim Anderson and a grandson, Shaun Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Anderson; eight children, Trevor (Brandi) Anderson, Thea Anderson-Morris, Desiree (Tyson) Anderson-Ross, Shena Anderson, Tiffany Price-Diaz, Duke (Megan) Anderson, Jayci Hollis and Ryan Griffin; eight siblings, Cindy (Chris) Neff, Vickie Anderson-Wark, Debbie (Dan) Thompson, Marty Anderson, Tina Ohlrogge, David (Lori) Anderson, Dustin (Francis) Anderson, and Shawn (Nikki) Anderson; seven grandchildren, Jordan Morris, Nathan (Alex) Morris, Ethan Ross, Emma Morris, Ryder Anderson, Gabriel Bayliff and Davie Elaine Anderson; and one great grandchild due May 2026.

Duke's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00p.m. – 6:00 p.m. for a come and go gathering at The Woodshed, 1901 N. Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel is overseeing the arrangements.

I´m so sorry to hear of the passing of "Uncle Duke". He was a constant presence in my childhood and I have many, many funny memories of him with my dad, Greg. They are most certainly lighting up the highways of Heaven together. God Bless.
