Steven Roberts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutchinson Funeral Chapel on Mar. 11, 2026.
Steven Jack Roberts Sr, 81, passed away March 9, 2026, at his home in Plevna, KS. He was born on February 5, 1945, in Wellington, KS, and was the son of L.J. and Florance (Blake) Roberts Sr.

Steve attended Fairfield High School. On February 17, 1963, Steve married his high school sweetheart Christine C. Koons in Plevna, KS. For 63 years, they lived a full life together. Steve was always a wonderful provider for his wife and three children. He worked in the oil fields, Cessna, and then moved to Alden, KS taking a job at Northern Natural Gas.

Steve was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. It was while hunting with his pastor that he gave his life to Christ, which enhanced his serving attitude for others. Steve and Christine spent 10 years in Alden, working, hunting, fishing, gardening, serving in the church and spending time with family and friends. Steve moved his family back to Christine's family farm, where they took up farming and custom harvesting. He continued to hunt, garden and watch his children play sports and church activities. Steve finished his working career as a school custodian and working at Doskosil/Tyson Foods. During retirement, Steve loved visiting his children, hunting and taking care of his lawn as well as his surrounding neighbors lawns. He was passionate about his westerns and visiting with family and friends who stopped by for a visit.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; in laws, Gene and Ruth Koons, Virginia Koons; sister-in-law, Argie Staples; and brother-in-law, C.J. Griffiths.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Christine; children, Cherie and Lloyd Cade of Packwood, WA, Brenda and Tom O'Neal of Enterprise, AL, Steve and Laraine Roberts Jr. of Oaxaca, Mexico; grandchildren, Whitney and Patrick Hays of Austin, TX, Carson Cade of Aurora, CO, Taylor Cade of Grants Pass, OR, Jordan and Taylor O'Neal of Junction City, KS, Riley and Shannon O'Neal of Sanford, FL, Lauren and Elijah Jackson of Hutchinson, KS, Kristen Roberts of Dixon, CA, Jessica and Hunter Podolan of Wichita, KS, Aurora and Andrew Pruitt of Hutchinson, KS, Blake Roberts of Wichita, KS; great grandchildren, Jojo, Rocky and Haisley; sister, Barbara and David Peck of Aberdeen, SD; sisters-in-law, Judy Roberts of South Hutchinson and LaRee Roberts of Abbyville, KS, brother-in-law, Mark Staples of Cambridge, MA.

Yesterday

From my seventh grade year and moving on, Steve had an impact on me and my two brothers. He was always a lot of fun to be around, and we could always count on him if we needed help. Our families knew each other going back generations. I look forward to joining him in Heaven!
