James Roberts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center on Mar. 11, 2026.
James H. Roberts Jr. was born November 16, 1946, to the late James and Sarah Roberts of Delaware, Ohio. He was the 2nd of 5 children. James passed away on March 7th, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father James H. Roberts Sr., his mother, Sarah Roberts and two siblings, Judith Armstrong and Leroy Roberts.

Affectionately known as Jim, Jimmy, or 'Big Jim', he lived a joyful life. James enjoyed many activities such as spending time with his cherished family, fishing, reading, and winning at card games like Bid Whist, Poker, and Guts. Jim also was a lover of baseball, music, talk-radio, and the Cleveland Browns. When he wasn't busy with these things you might find him in the kitchen whipping up one of his specialties, as he was an outstanding cook. Some of his signature dishes include potato salad, scalloped corn, ribs, homemade pizza, doughnuts from scratch, chipped beef on toast and even a famous Kool-Aid blend.

Jim enjoyed a career as an accomplished Cement Mason and worked on the Easton Town Center project in its beginning stages. He loved cars and owned several Cadillacs, Buicks and other models. He was a Jack of all Trades, performing jobs ranging from substitute teacher to taxi driver. Jim was a self-taught utilities specialist and handyman around the house and even owned a carryout on the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Hudson Street in Columbus by the name of 'Jim's Carryout'. He was looked up to as a father figure and barber by the neighborhood friends of his children. His education included East High School and Business Studies at Bliss College. Jim also proudly served in the United States Navy.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Georgia Hammond Roberts, their 5 children, Pamela (Mike) Hudson, James (Liz) Roberts, Maria (Mark) Wilson, Andrea (Bill) Holman, and Jamar. Also, 14 grandchildren: Devin, Darrin, James Jr, Celicia, Kenneth, Deja, Mark II, Matthew, Tia, Nikia, Avita, Derek, Giani, and Zaiere; 17 great-grandchildren including special great-grandson Jolando Webb whom he and Georgia raised continuously since birth, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Also left to cherish his memory are Jim's beloved brother and sister, Hugh Roberts and Cynthia Binns, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends may join the family on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the Snyder Funeral Center, Delaware Chapel, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015, where services celebrating the significance of Jim's life will take place at 11:00 am.
