DeWayne Jurrens, age 76, of Toronto, SD passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Hendricks Community Hospital. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7p.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN. A private family service will be held and burial will be at the Hansonville Cemetery, rural Hendricks, MN. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
DeWayne Allen Jurrens was born on December 23, 1947 to Johnnie and Ilene (Ramlo) Jurrens. He grew up on the farm with six brothers and sisters: Janice (Neil) Nelson, Danny Jurrens, Jolene (Tom) Koziatek, Judy Smigielski, Dave (Nyla) Jurrens and Janell (Richard) Ethridge.
He was married to Mary Ann Dahl on November 24, 1979. Together they raised three children: Charlene Jurrens of San Antonio, TX, Arlo and Misty Jurrens of Elkton, SD and Christopher and Becky Jurrens of Toronto, SD. There are also nine grandkids and four great-grandkids.
A devoted farmer, DeWayne spent his life working the land and raising cattle, instilling a strong work ethic and his passion for hard work in those around him, which included cutting wood and picking rock. His commitment to farming was matched only by his deep commitment for is family and friends. He also enjoyed working as a real estate agent and an auctioneer for over 50 years.
DeWayne is survived by his beloved wife Mary; his three kids, grandkids and great grandkids as well as all of his brothers and sisters. They will all carry forward his legacy of hard work, strength, and resilience. His memory will live on in the stories shard around the dinner table.
