In Loving Memory of
Dewey Alvin Bell

Dewey Alvin Bell passed away peacefully at a healthcare facility in Granite City, IL on September 13, 2025 after an extended illness.

Dewey was born on Sept 16, 1947 in Granite City, IL to his parents Aubrey and Myrtle Bell. He began a career as a history teacher before marrying and joining the US Army. During his time in the army, he began a family and learned valuable skills. Upon his honorable discharge from the army, he earned a 2nd degree from SIU-Edwardsville in medical technology. Before retirement, he spent most of his career as a dedicated employee of Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Dewey will be well remembered for his devotion to his family and his infectious sense of humor. He was always up for a long conversation or a good joke. In his younger years, he enjoyed travelling the country on long road trips and finding a good fishing spot to relax. In retirement, he enjoyed interests in music, history, and gardening.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents Aubrey and Myrtle Bell and his sisters Carol-Jean Arbuckle, Faye Varady, Norma Puleo, and Ruth Bell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Marilyn Bell, their two children Monica and Patrick Bell, and his sister Jannie Staats as well as a large extended family.

Visitation will be held at Thomas Saska Funeral home in Granite City, IL from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday September 17th with the funeral service held at 11 am on Thursday September 18th. After the funeral service, a procession will proceed to Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Edwardsville, IL for burial. A light luncheon will be served afterwards graciously hosted at the home of his sister-in-law Joy Bohnenstiehl.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to the Shriner's Organization.
