Dewey Eugene Bruce, or "Doogie" to friends and family, was called home after a six-year battle with vascular dementia on January 22, 2024, after 80 years of residency in Clinton, Arkansas. Mr. Bruce was born July 8, 1943, to Marion O. Bruce and Elizabeth Turner Bruce. He is preceded in homecoming by his parents, an elder brother, Willis Barnett Bruce, and a son, Danny Bruce. He is remembered by his wife, Janet Bruce of Clinton, Arkansas, two siblings: Othel R. Bruce of Vilonia, Arkansas, Cindy Johnson of Benton, Arkansas, two children: Paula Cowsert of Clinton, Arkansas and Terry Bruce (Layne) of Acworth, Georgia, four grandchildren: Cade Cowsert (Katie) of Clinton, Arkansas along with Blair, Sloan, and Cash Bruce of Acworth, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. Bruce was a proud husband to Janet Bruce for the past 61 years as they raised their two children. He retired from his passion for driving diesel trucks after 30 years with Arkansas Best Freight at 55, with the dream of sharing the countryside with his wife that had been such a big part of his life for so many years. However, much to his surprise, Dewey and Janet's love for antiques took them down the path of opening a local antique shop which was followed by an auction house, and a floral shop. Retirement wasn't as he had planned, but he had the opportunity to share it with Janet and was content with the focus of staying right at home after so many years of being on the road.
The family wishes to thank all of those who took the time to visit, support, and pray for them, especially over the last few years. A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Clinton, Arkansas on Saturday, January 27, 2024, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 pm, that is open to all friends and family. Immediately following visitation, a service will be held to celebrate Dewey's life. Dewey's ashes will be buried in the family plot in Alread, Arkansas near his parents and son at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Immanuel Baptist Church in Clinton, Arkansas.
