Dewey Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2021.
Dewey was a graduate of Northwestern high school in 1977 and received his associate degree from York Technical College. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and loved the outdoors. He was an esteemed wrestler in high school and placed 2nd in the state championship for his weight division. He also studied Budo Jujitsu style of martial arts. Dewey was a hard worker; in fact, one of his first jobs was driving a school bus while he was still attending high school. He also worked at his father's tire store, Cherry Road Tire & Auto in Rockhill, SC. Dewey moved to Asheville circa 1980 with his young daughter, Joy. He continued to work in the tire business briefly before getting into the beverage industry at Pepsi-Cola. He excelled at his position and moved up through the ranks and quickly became a key member of the team. After many years at Pepsi, Dewey transitioned into manufacturing and worked at Continental Teves. However, his love for the beverage industry brought him back as he began working for Mutual Distributing. With his strong work ethic and drive to support his family he worked M-F for this company in their warehouse and then he ran routes on the weekend. He did this tireless 7 day a week routine for 15+ years, taking very few days off. No matter how busy he was, Dewey would always make time for a friend or family member. He was extremely compassionate and loved his family. He had a positive personality and a pleasant demeanor. He was very kind to (and loved) all animals. In fact, he would often feed to the wildlife near his home and at one point had a family of raccoons literally eating from his hand. If he found a spider in his home, he would relocate it outdoors versus harming it. He had a love for God and his country and was passionate about his beliefs. Preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Davis, and two granddaughters, Brooke, and Ona Putnam. He is survived by his wife, Paula Davis; daughter, Joy Putnam, and her husband Joseph, Hoschton, GA; son, Christopher Davis, Asheville, NC; father, Carlton Davis, Rock Hill, SC and numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church in Candler, NC. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

While you may have been my father "in-law", I always considered you a father. You accepted me into the family and always treated me with kindness and the utmost respect. Joy and I were just kids when we met and you were a big influence on me as I matured. You taught me more life lessons than you probably ever realized, and for that I am greatful.

I will miss you dearly. I will miss being able to talk with you for advice on things, I'll miss our chats about the topics of the times and I'll miss sharing funny jokes as we had a similar sense of humor. I feel like I have lost a father, a mentor, and a friend.

I will continue to look after your little girl, please do the same for me and give my babies a hug in Heaven and tell them that their daddy misses them too.

I love you.
