Dewey Lambdin Obituary

Dewey Whitley Lambdin, formerly of LaFollette passed away Monday, July 26 at the age of 76. Dewey was born January 26, 1945 to the late Dewey and Edda Lambdin.

He is survived by a host of family and friends.

He graduated from the Military Academy at Castle Heights in 1962.

He continued his education and graduated from Montana State University in 1969 with a degree in film and television production.
Post-graduation, he worked for 12 years as a producer/director for a network affiliate television station.

At the time of his death, Dewey lived in Nashville where he spent most of his time writing books based on Alan Lewrie's naval adventures spanning the American Revolution and Napoleon Wars. The Alan Lewrie series written by Dewey consists of 25 books, which were released between the years of 1989 to 2021.

He was currently working on his 26th book, set to be published in 2022.

All these years in his writing career, Dewey has been writing with the help of his beloved typewriter, thus resisting his temptation for a computer.

Dewey was a very talented published author, and he will be deeply missed by all that knew him, loved him, and enjoyed his books.

Family and friends gathered for a graveside service on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette.

I have enjoyed, read and reread Mr. Lambdin's sea tales since I first discovered there was more to read after Patrick O'Brians work was done. Author and his Lewrie were and are great friends and companions and will remain so. Selfishly , it is a great loss to discover Mr. Lambdin has left us.

I read all 25 of the Alan Lewrie series and will get #26 if it is published. Having spent time on a square sail rigged ship, I related to the authenticity of ship handling that Dewey described. I discovered him after reading all the classic "age of sail novels" by Patrick O'Brien, C.S. Forester, Julian Stockwin, et. al., and was delighted to come across his Lewrie series, as I had concluded no more would be written in this genre. He was an excellent author and deserves to be listed as an equal in the names above. The Sunday toast in the Royal Navy wardroom tradition applies: To Absent Friends. RIP

My condolences to Dewey Lamdin's family and friends. Sitting in my office, I count 18 of his books in my bookcase, plus I could find several paperbacks packed in the attic. I have followed Mr. Lambdin for a long time, and I have enjoyed his unique and historical works.

I have followed his work from the beginning and would describe myself as a fan. I'm sure there are many reasons that Mr. Lambdin will missed by family and friends. I will miss his unique contribution to historical nautical fiction, and regret never to have shaken his hand in gratitude and respect.

My condolences to Dewey's family and friends for their sad loss. I have come late to his Alan Lewrie series of which I thoroughly enjoy. Dewey had an amazing imagination and wit that will be sorely missed. He clearly was "One of a Kind". RIP Dewey.

I started purchasing the Lewrie series books some 20 years ago, and I have 23 books in the series. I am going to miss Mr. Dewey Lamdin and his works. God Bless.
