Dewey Winslow Obituary

Dewey Winslow

December 3, 1948-January 12, 2024

Dewey Winslow, 75, of Beatrice, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, January 12, 2024. Dewey Winslow, named at birth, Danny Ervin Winslow, was born on December 3, 1948, in Denver, CO to William and Esther (Fauver) Winslow. He was the youngest sibling of their five children. Dewey was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1968 to 1990, as a submariner in the "Silent Service." He was an electrician and skilled in navigation equipment. Dewey saw the world, moved over 40 times in his life, and was discharged with honor. After his military discharge, Dewey went to work for the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, CA, home of his final duty station. In the late 90s, he retired from NASSCO and moved back to his parent's roots in Nebraska. He worked for many years at the Beatrice Walmart. Dewey was known for his support of others and for his beautiful cross-stitch pictures, which kept him going in his later years. Dewey practiced his Christian faith privately as an adult. He spent many years serving as the church janitor and supported the junior high and high school youth group his daughters attended where their family were members, Evangelical Free Church of Chula Vista (Paseo del Rey Church). Dewey had a love of music, played the drums as a young man, was drum major for the high school marching band, and loved Elvis.

He is survived by his sister, Bev of Fresno, CA; brothers, Jerry (Bernice) of San Leandro, CA, and Roger (Constance) of Sonoma, CA; daughters, Dawn Marie Reynolds of Spring Valley, CA and Codie Lee Winslow and husband, Michael Schmitz of Castle Rock, CO; three grandchildren from Codie, Amanda Peterson, Gilbert Brenner, and Samuel Brenner; two step-grandchildren, Andon and Jace Schmitz; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther; brother, Wayne. Dewey was a beloved grandpa, father, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, including bonus daughters, Evie Downs, Kelly Taylor, and Angie Baumfalk. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Veterans Club, 7th & Dorsey St, Beatrice, with Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Naval Honor Guard. Lunch will follow the services. A memorial has been established to Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. A book for signatures will be available on Friday from noon until 8:00 PM at the Fox Funeral Home. www.foxfuneralhome.net Fox Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.

I worked with Dewey at Wal Mart for a few months after retiring from the Navy. We would swap stories, what a kind man.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Dewey was a first cousin to my father Harold Winslow, who was the son of Richard S. Winslow. Although I don´t know Dewey he sounds like he was truly a wonderful and kind man who lived a very full and meaningful life. I wish you all comfort and peace in the coming days.
