Diana Phyllis Black

Diana Phyllis Black, a beloved educator, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, in Beavercreek, Ohio, surrounded by her loving husband, John Black. Born on February 26, 1958, in Charleston, West Virginia, Diana led a life rich in love, laughter, and genuine caring for those around her.

For an impressive 40 years, Diana dedicated her career to the Dayton Public Schools as an Early Childhood Education Teacher, primarily teaching 1st grade. She was a steadfast advocate for her students, pouring her heart and soul into each lesson, instilling a love of learning that would shape their futures. Her pride in her accomplishments was evident, particularly when it came to her family and the students she nurtured throughout her career.

Diana's vibrant personality was infectious; she was bubbly and full of life, embracing every moment with an unwavering passion. A spiritual woman and a fierce prayer warrior, she often inspired others with her fond saying that she would “leave to find some miracles” and return with them. That spirit transformed both her personal and professional relationships.

Growing up, Diana cherished a beautiful childhood herself, often fondly remembering how she celebrated the fall season with her family. These cherished memories shaped the warmth she extended to everyone in her life. Her wonderful cooking, especially her family favorites such as beef noodles, tuna casserole, and her famously delicious deviled eggs, became a wonderful tradition that brought her family together. Diana was also a devoted sports fan, passionately cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, and while she enjoyed her time on the sidelines, her fur babies, Bowdi and Sasha (RIP), also held special places in her heart.

She is survived by her adoring husband of 31 years, John Black, and "her girl's", Jennifer Brown and Stephanie (Nadeem) Brown Alim. Diana will be deeply missed by her siblings Harold "Pete" Flipping, Elaine Flipping, and Jeannie Davis, as well as her niece Brittani Fort and nephew Miles Fort. She leaves behind her fur baby Bowdi and a legacy filled with extended family, friends, and countless students who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey Flipping and John Willie Davis, and her sister, Terrie Fort. Their love remains imbued in the family she built and the lasting impact she made in the community.

The family invites friends and loved ones to honor Diana's memory with a visitation at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek on October 20, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, followed by a memorial service from 3:30 PM. This gathering will be a time to celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who truly exemplified love, kindness, and a zest for life. Diana Phyllis Black will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
