Diana Bah Chen: A Life of Generosity, Flavor, and Grace

Diana Bah Chen, 79, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2025.

Born in Shanghai, China, in January 1946, Diana lived a life rooted in generosity, creativity, and selfless devotion to her family and friends.

A Passion for Life

Diana's spirit was vibrant, expressed through her diverse passions. Her greatest joy came from the kitchen, where she mastered the art of cooking from countless cultures. She beautifully blended the flavors of her homeland, often sharing her famous tea eggs and egg rolls with countless friends and family, bringing warmth and comfort to every gathering. She was happiest while feeding others and hosting gatherings in her home in Chapel Hill.

Beyond the kitchen, Diana was a dedicated artist and artisan. She found tranquility in Chinese brush painting, expressed her flair for elegance in ballroom dancing (always wearing the most beautiful, sparkling shoes), and channeled her creativity as a talented seamstress. She also had a wonderful connection to nature, spending time planting flowers and tending to her garden.

Legacy of Kindness

Diana's spirit was defined by her selfless nature, generosity, and boundless kindness. She touched many lives, always giving freely of her time and her heart. She was a woman of strong faith and taught her daughter and grandchildren to live their lives with kindness and faith.

She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Dr. Benjamin Chen, who passed away in November 2005 where they met while attending UNC- Chapel Hill.

Deeply Loved

Diana will be profoundly missed by her loving daughter, Caroline, and her two cherished grandchildren, Claire and Andrew, who were the light of her life and made her smile and light up with joy. She is also survived by her son-in-law and two brothers overseas in Taiwan.

The family is deeply grateful for every memory and moment shared. They extend their sincere thanks to the family, friends, and caregivers who supported Diana during her life. The meaningful way people cared about her will never be forgotten, and her legacy lives on in her daughter and in the many lives she touched.

Her smile, laughter, and love will never be forgotten.

Services

The family welcomes prayers and the sharing of loving memories. A celebration of Diana's life, capturing her spirit, will be held after her service on October 29, 2025 at 1pm.
