Diane Sue Brainard, age 75, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Summa Hospital in Akron, Ohio with her family by her side, after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Akron, Ohio on September 4, 1948 to Paul and Alice (English) Short and was one of six children. Diane graduated from Tallmadge High School, Class of 1966. She was married to Ron Brainard for 12 years and had two beautiful children, Gary and Wendy. She was a proud grandma of six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a resident of Carrollton, Ohio, where she was manager and co-owner of A-1 Twin Valley Campground for nearly 20 years. Her favorite movie was Pollyanna and she tried to live life with the positive outlook and childlike innocence of its main character. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, crocheting, fishing, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alice (English) Short; her siblings, Nancy Detamore, and Terry Short.
Diane is survived by her son, Gary (Tammy) Brainard; daughter, Wendy Harvey; her partner, Roger Brueckner; grandchildren, Tabitha (Jacob) Albright, Amber (Jordan) Repko, Dalton (Kayli) Brainard, Cole Harvey, Kyle Harvey, and Mason Brainard; great-grandchildren, Boston, Levi, Avery, Hadley, Alvera; siblings, Gloria (Jim) Cole, Allison Short, Craig (Anne) Short, and many other loving family members.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 16th at 10:00 AM at Chestnut Hill Memorial Gardens, 2613 Sackett Ave, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Association for Cancer Research.
