Diane Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Mar. 31, 2026.
Diane Beverley Johnson, born November 21, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to her parents George and Rhea Beverley.

Died March 27, 2026, peacefully in her home, holding Marlin's hand, surrounded by her family.

She was the oldest of three children, Diane, Steve and Kathlene.

She met her companion Marlin Johnson while attending West High School. They married in July of 1957. They were married for 68 years, were together for 70. They successfully and joyfully raised 3 children Roger, Brenda, and Walter.

When her children were in Jr. High and High School, she went back to college to finish her bachelor's degree in secondary education. She taught English for many years, at the high school in Vernal. Her favorite students were those who were struggling in school or at home. She was the favorite teacher of many of those students.

She loved to serve others. She served in many Relief Society Presidencies, both ward and stake. Anyone getting married in her sphere of influence received a gift from her and Marlin.

She was a master bread maker. Having a quilt up on a frame in the living room was a regular occurrence. She knitted gloves, hats and sweaters for her kids and grandkids.

She and Marlin were both voracious readers and passed that talent to their kids. She played piano, was a lover of music. Later in life she took up painting in watercolors. She wrote monthly letters to her kids, grand kids, and her ward missionaries with a copy of her latest watercolor. It was an 8x11 sheet of paper, folded that opened like a book, with a watercolor on the front, and a letter inside.

She led a rich productive life, that was filled with friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Marlin Johnson, her children Roger (Debbie Cottrell), Brenda (Kevin Miles) and Walter (Julianna Peterman) and her brother Steve Beverley (former spouse Shelly Beverley). She and Marlin proudly have 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George Beverley and Rhea Hunsaker, and her younger sister Kathlene Beverley.
