Diane McDonnell Obituary

Diane Elaine McDonnell, left this earth heaven-bound on October 11th, 2025, at Compass Park, in Franklin, IN. She was born on May 15, 1952, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Olive (Hughes) and Rolland McDonnell who preceded her in death.

Diane attended Manual High School and was a member of the class of 1970 and maintained a special relationship through the years with many of her devoted classmates. Following a devastating accident in 1969, she suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her confined to a wheelchair. Her love of life and wonderful sense of humor, however, were left unscathed. Through years of adversity and physical challenges, she continued to live life to the fullest, enjoying all its simple pleasures and was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.

Diane leaves behind her loving siblings, sister Nancy Thompson, brother Terry McDonnell, and her sister-in-law Brenda McDonnell, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends MaryBeth Piland and Janie Klank. She was proceeded in death by sisters Karen Gearheart and Linda Doney, brothers-in-law Terry Thompson and Joe Doney, nephews Chad McDonnell, Kent Gearheart and Greg Quinlan.

Services will be held on Monday October 20th, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, 481 Main St., Greenwood, IN. with visitation starting at 11:00am until the time of the service. Burial immediately following services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Humane Society, 3827 N. Graham Rd., Franklin, IN 46131.

Yesterday

Diane's and her family lived in our neighborhood, University Heights. I attended grade school and Manual High School with Diane and considered her a friend. After high school I moved away and lost touch with Diane. I am so very sorry to have learned of her passing. Prayers and condolences to he family and close friends.

Life long friend from high school on. Beautiful inside and out!! Diane was a survivor and spent many years enduring many physical issues. She will be missed. Loved her dearly and her whole family!

I´m so sorry to see that Diane has passed... I worked 2nd shift at aspen... Her laugh made me laugh... I loved her room and how it looked so personal.. putting her to bed she was very particular and wanted everything a certain way... after a couple of times at doing this , I knew how she wanted things.. I would go in and started doing things... she would look around at what I was doing and she would try and make sure I was doing it exactly the way she wanted... she would try and say something and I was doing something else... she would make a huh huh sound and when I was done, she would look around HOPING TO FIND SOMETHING I DIDN´T DO... Then she would sigh ... I asked, Did I miss anything and she would look around and say NO... I usually asked if she trust me... She would study me... WE WOULD LAUGH... She was one of my favorite people to care for..I´m so glad our paths crossed... May God continue to hold her in his arms...
