Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hursen Funeral Home & Crematory - Hillside-Westchester on Dec. 29, 2025.
Diane (Powell) Pointer was born on January 4, 1960, to Herbert Powell and Lula Mae (Wrancher) Powell. One of nine children, Diane was raised in a home filled with love, laughter, and deep family bonds. From her earliest days, she was surrounded by care and connection, and that foundation of love shaped the woman she would become-one whose heart was always open and whose presence brought comfort to many.
She shared her childhood with her siblings: James Simmons, Johnnie Powell (Lueretta), Herbert Powell Jr., Eugene Powell, Yvonne (Powell) Muldrow (Willie), Dennis Powell (Linda), Wayne Powell, and Evelyn Powell. Together, they formed a close-knit family rooted in faith, resilience, and devotion to one another.
Diane was a dedicated student who proudly attended Schiller Grade School and graduated from Cooley High School in 1978. Her commitment to growth and independence led her, in the late 1980s, to earn her Real Estate License, through which she faithfully served clients throughout the western suburbs of Chicago.
Above all else, Diane was a devoted mother and cherished matriarch who put God first and accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior very early in life. She was formerly married to James Pointer in 1991, and together they raised nine children: Saunjah Spring (Powell-Pointer) Brantley (Howard), James Peair Pointer (Melia), Monicka Tiera Pointer, Michael Jamal Pointer, Robert Jarrod Pointer, Christopher Jermaine Pointer, Decartis Jerome Pointer, Diana Michelle Pointer, and Marquita Eliza Pointer. Diane poured her heart into her children, nurturing them with unconditional love, wisdom, and strength, always dreaming bigger dreams for them than they could see for themselves.
Diane found joy in family gatherings, music that moved her spirit, dancing, reading, sharing and cooking good food, traveling, murder mysteries, cop shows and imagining a brighter future for those she loved. Her laughter, encouragement, and generosity touched not only her family but also friends and members of the extended community who were blessed to know her.
She departed this life peacefully, surrounded by love, in the presence of her children and her beloved brother Eugene.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lula Mae Powell; her siblings James, Johnnie, Herbert, Yvonne, Dennis, Wayne, and Evelyn; her grandson Jamari; and her godson Deshawn.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Eugene; her devoted children; her treasured grandchildren D'Angelo, Pierre (Semaj), Aminah, Michael Jr., Michyya, Trenity, Kyrin, Robin, Aryanna, Kyree, and Trenton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and extended family who were like siblings to her and who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to donate to one of her favorite charities,
