Diane Wheat was born on March 21, 1956, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Alex and Nellie Grace McLaughlin. She entered into eternal rest on May 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and the peace of the Lord she faithfully served all her life.

Diane was a proud graduate of Smith High School, where she played the trombone in the school band and cultivated a love for music and community. It was in the Summerhill community of Atlanta where she met the love of her life, L.C. Wheat Sr. The two were joined in holy matrimony on March 24, 1972, and together they built a home grounded in love, faith, and family. To their union were born four children: L.C. Wheat Jr., Lashonda Reanne Wheat, Antwan Lamont Wheat, and Kente Octavious Wheat.

Diane accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and rededicated her life as a young adult at Old Landmark Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Billie and Carrie Carter. Her spiritual journey continued at Central Holiness Church, where she served faithfully for many years under the leadership of Apostle J.T. Burnett.

In her latter years, Diane continued to live out her faith by supporting her son in the launch of Y.T.A.C Ministries (Yielding To Achieve Christianity) under the leadership of Bishop L.C. Wheat Jr. As a mother and a believer, she found joy in knowing that her family continued to walk in the calling of Christ.

She loved the Lord, and it showed in everything she did. Diane gave not just her heart, but her time, her resources, and her full self to anyone in need. Her home was a place of warmth, her arms always open, and her spirit deeply rooted in generosity, faith, and love. She believed that family was everything and made it her mission to keep her loved ones connected, cared for, and covered in prayer.

Diane devoted her life to serving others not only through ministry but also through her professional calling in the field of nursing. She began working at A.G. Rhodes Home in October of 1981 as a Certified Nursing Assistant and remained a faithful and beloved caregiver there until her retirement in 2021. Her career also included time at Grady Hospital, Emory Hospital, Fountain View Nursing Home, and other care facilities, where she was known for her compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment to her patients.

On May 27, 2016, Diane completed the Community Health Leadership Program at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute of the Morehouse School of Medicine-a testament to her lifelong pursuit of excellence and her heart for public health and community healing.

Diane was preceded in death by many beloved family members, including her husband, L.C. Wheat Sr.; her cherished son, Kenta Octavious Wheat; her parents, Alex and Nellie Grace McLaughlin; and her siblings: Roosevelt McLaughlin, Marie McLaughlin, Gracie Mae McLaughlin, Charlie McLaughlin, Mattie Billingslea, Rufus McLaughlin, Josephine Campbell, and Troy McLaughlin.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, L.C. Wheat Jr. (Shandricker), Lashonda Wheat- Lasore (Niyi Seun), and Antwan Lamont Wheat (Tamika); siblings Roy McLaughlin ( Val) and Shirley McLaughlin Hand (Pierce) as well as a host of treasured grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends and church members who were touched by her life and love.

Though Diane has entered into her eternal rest, the legacy she leaves behind is alive in each of us-a legacy of faith, compassion, family, and service.

We love you more than words can say.
