Diane E. Whiting, a beacon of intelligence, passion, and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the U of M Medical Center. Born on March 18, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, Diane was the cherished daughter of the late Lowell and Elizabeth (MacRae) Nelson. Her life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the love she cultivated within her family and community.
Diane's formative years in Detroit were the foundation of a life marked by academic achievement and a commitment to helping others. She attended Alma College, University of Michigan and later furthered her education at Central Michigan University, where she earned a master's degree in healthcare. Diane's dedication to education was evident in her career as a physical therapy instructor, where she inspired students at Delta College's Physical Therapist Assistant Program for 12 years and at Mid Michigan College for six years. Her passion for teaching and her ability to connect with her students left an indelible mark on many aspiring healthcare professionals.
She is survived by her loving son, Erik, and her adored grandchildren, Abigail and Alan, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Diane's memory will also be cherished by her siblings, Claudia (Tom) Bauman, Lisa LaBrake, and Douglas (Victoria) Nelson. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Borchard, whose memory continued to be a source of strength and love for Diane.
Diane's interests were as varied as they were rich. An avid reader, she could often be found with a book in hand, lost in stories and knowledge. Music filled her home, and her love for writing allowed her to express her thoughts and creativity beautifully. Gardening was another of Diane's joys, as she found peace and solace in the beauty and tranquility of nature. Her faith was important to her, and she was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where she formed many lasting friendships and contributed to the church community.
Those who knew Diane will remember her for her sharp intellect, her passionate nature, and her boundless kindness. She approached life with a warm heart and an open mind, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Diane's legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, both personally and professionally.
Funeral services Will be held July 12, 2025 at 1 pm from Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home -GLADWIN CHAPEL with burial in Sherman Township Cemetery. Family will greet family and friends from 11 am until time of services.
