Digay Lynnette Buchanan was born on January 7, 1961, to Chester Buchanan and Ruth Darden in Dayton, Ohio. She peacefully went to rest on Tuesday, February 17, 2006, at Hospice of Dayton.
Digay graduated from Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio. She worked as a manager at Mom’s Car Wash, where she mentored and managed young men transitioning from the prison system. She took great pride in guiding and supporting them as they worked toward rebuilding their lives.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth (Talmadge) Darden, and her father, Chester Buchanan.
Digay leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Christopher (LaShawn) Buchanan and Richard Springer; one sister, Lisa (Drake) Smith of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Cortney, BryDale, Madison, and Matthew; one great-granddaughter, Bryleigh; two nieces, Nicketa Jefferson and Joyce Smith; one nephew, Drake Smith Jr., all of Houston, Texas; and a host of extended family and friends.
Digay was a private person who lived life on her own terms. She loved reading horror fiction books and watching horror films. One of her favorite pastimes was challenging anyone to a good game of dominoes. She was a skilled player who took the game seriously.
Digay leaves behind a legacy of unwavering kindness for those fortunate enough to cross her path. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her spirit remains etched in the hearts of all who loved her.
A Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2026 from 11:00AM until the time of the service at 12:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home - Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439).
