Dillard Davis (Dean) Turner, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23. He had been a resident of Sayre Christian Village, a long-term care community in
Lexington, Kentucky since 2020. He was born on September 17, 1939, in Troublesome, Kentucky to Dr. Dillard Davis Turner, Sr and Thelma Dean Clark. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa May-Turner, his children Marc Turner, London, KY; and Pamela Flynn (George), Cincinnati; his sister Vanda DeMarcus, Lexington; and brother, Harold (Diane) London, KY as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sister, Janice Brumagen of Morehead, KY. He was affectionately known by his family as D.D. He was much loved and respected by his wife, Lisa's parents (deceased), her siblings, nieces and nephews.
His early years were in Manchester, Ky. and he spent his teen years in London, Ky. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy and London High School. He attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky and attended Law School in Irvine, CA.
Dean spent much of his career in the investment/mergers & acquisitions business operating his own company and consultancy as Dean Turner Investments (name of his last company). His career led him to international travel including a year living in London, England. He and his wife, Lisa, lived in many cities throughout the U.S.: Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and, Sarasota, and Miami.
In his retirement he turned his passion for reading, research, and storytelling toward writing. He published two business books, a travel journal of his hike through Scotland, and 6 novels. His book on Scotland, A Walk Through the Highlands of Scotland, was his biggest seller.
Dean was known for his calm and quiet demeanor and sly, clever wit. His many business colleagues described him as very considerate and kind. Adding that he could be relied upon to give sound advice when asked, he was always good company, and he had a good sense of humor.
He was an avid sailor and lover of the oceans. He enjoyed sports playing basketball in High School and golf and was a jogger much of his adult life. He enjoyed history and travel. He steadfastly collected first editions of his favorite travel writer, R.V. Morton. He and his wife, Lisa, enjoyed 34 years of a loving marriage.
The family is thankful for the care given him at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington. His memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421Harrodsburg Road,
Lexington, KY 40513. Remembrances may be made to a
