He and his wife, Lisa, lived in many cities throughout the U.S.: Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and, Sarasota, and Miami.

In his retirement he turned his passion for reading, research, and storytelling toward writing. He published two business books, a travel journal of his hike through Scotland, and 6 novels. His book on Scotland, A Walk Through the Highlands of Scotland, was his biggest seller.

Dean was known for his calm and quiet demeanor and sly, clever wit. His many business colleagues described him as very considerate and kind. Adding that he could be relied upon to give sound advice when asked, he was always good company, and he had a good sense of humor.
