Dionisia Cordero Gerena Guzmán Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2024.
Family matriarch, Dionisia Cordero, 92, of Hacienda Heights, left us peacefully on November 22, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Born on June 23, 1932, in Camuy, Puerto Rico, Dionisia was the ninth of eleven children born to María Guzmán Acevedo and Juan Gerena Cubero. At the age of 19, Dionisia relocated from Puerto Rico to downtown Los Angeles in 1952, and married her hometown school mate, Agapito Cordero Avilés, for over 60 years until his passing in 2016. Dionisia is remembered for her Christian faith, charisma, tenacity, sense of duty to protect her family, and delicious homemade meals. Dionisia was a woman of formality and orderliness, characteristics that she reflected in her own behavior. She believed that no matter who you were, or your background, when you did something, it had to be done with excellence. Dionisia is survived by daughters, Dr. María P. Aranda (Cordero) and Yvette Cordero, as well as her grandchildren Janelle C. Caamaño (Aranda), Lance Cordero, Clint Cordero, and great-grandchildren, Andrew Caamaño, Grace Cordero, Ava Caamaño, David Cordero, Robert Cordero, and Luca Caamaño. She was preceded in death by her son, Agapito Cordero, Jr.
