Dionysius "Don" Lickteig, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Anderson County Residential Living Center in Garnett.
Don was born on February 7, 1934, in Greeley, Kansas, born to Alfred Joseph and Albertine Eugina (Peine) Lickteig. He was the oldest of thirteen children (9 boys and 4 girls). His grandmother Elizabeth was the midwife who helped deliver him at the family farm. He attended Greeley High School, graduating with the class of 1952.
On June 14th, 1954 he married Martha Clinesmith, and from this union they were blessed with 6 children. Richard, Randy, Ron, Bill, Cheryl, and Lori.
In June 1956, Don went into the Army and was stationed in Nancy, France. After hearing his big boisterous voice, he was assigned to officiating baseball games. After leaving the Army, he moved his family to Iowa and began working for Bell and Howell.
In 1971 he started a carpet cleaning business, which was his career until around 2014. So for 43 years he truly earned his nickname "Mr. Clean". He loved his grandchildren dearly and would take them along with him while working, vacationing, and a lot of times to the bar we all found out later. And of course, they knew they could go to grandpa's and he would go to the liquor store for them.
Don never knew a stranger and enjoyed bullshitting with just about everyone he met. He loved children, and he passed out many dollar bills to all the kids he came across. He truly just wanted to see them smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Lickteig; siblings, Victor Lickteig; Patricia Goodeyon; Joyce Burris; Eugene Lickteig; Stephen Lickteig; and Linda Lickteig.
He is survived by his children; Richard Lickteig of Paola, Kansas, Randy and Mariann Lickteig of Olathe, Kansas, Bill Lickteig of Garnett, Kansas, Cheryl Lickteig of Omaha, Nebraska, Lori Hicks and husband Kenneth of Garnett, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Kim Lickteig of Warsaw, Missouri; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Bernard Lickteig of Burlington, Kansas, Alfreda Hiner of Olathe, Kansas, Mike Lickteig and wife, Barb, of Greeley, Kansas, Fabian Lickteig and wife, Annie, of Cicero, Illinois, Leon Lickteig and wife, Jane, of Greeley, Jerome Lickteig and wife, Donna, of Trimble, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Greeley, Kansas. Don's family will greet friends at a visitation which will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening, August 15, 2025, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett.
