Dixon Kenneth Hyde

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, Dixon “Dix” Kenneth Hyde, 67, passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Wednesday September 13, 2023. He was born on September 3, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dr. O. Wendell and Myrtle Stevens Hyde. He has always enjoyed the outdoors and especially the time he spent camping and hiking with his dad and siblings. He was an avid skier and, in high school, tried to ensure each season that he broke even on his season pass before Thanksgiving.

He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kobe, Japan. Dix brought back a love of the Japanese people and language, as well as some recipes his family will miss cooking and eating with him.

Dix met the love of his life, Julie, at a disco where he got to hold her drink. They dated and were married in the Ogden temple. Together they had five children: Dustin, Ashlie, Shaylee, Kiele, and Davis. Dix is survived by his mother, brothers and sisters, wife, five children and their spouses, and 13 grandchildren. Dix loved his family and was known to put their needs above all other priorities. He often said if he had known how much fun grandchildren were, he would have had them first. We will always be grateful for the time he made for us.

Dix was brilliant, kind, and hardworking.  He loved to solve problems and share solutions. Anything could be done if you involved Dix, no matter the amount of instruction, effort, or time required. He owned a successful construction company building homes, primarily in Utah but as far away as the Cayman Islands and Japan.  With the skills and knowledge he developed, he also had the opportunity to work on a number of projects for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including renovating a number of visitors centers; the ashery, sawmill, and schoolhouse in Kirtland, Ohio; and the renovation of the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in San Diego, California.

Dix was delighted in the unknowingly last chapter of his life to have finally had the chance to help build a House of the Lord, in Smithfield, Utah, after building homes for so many others.

He leaves behind a Hagrid-sized legacy and hole in our hearts. He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and never hesitated to share his beliefs. He loved finding and learning about his and Julie’s ancestors and found great joy in family history work. He held many callings in the Church and served faithfully. Praise to the Lord that we will get to see Dix again after the resurrection, hopefully skiing (pain free).

We are grateful to the Perry City and Roy City Police Departments, the first responders and Brigham City Community Hospital staff who all worked so hard to help Dix and who have been so kind and compassionate during this difficult time. We have felt the love and support of family and community and appreciate all of the prayers offered on behalf of our family and service we have received.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday September 21, 2023, at the LDS church at 855 N 4000 W, West Point, Utah. Friends may visit the family Wednesday September 20, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 pm and Thursday September 21, 2023, from 9:00-10:30 am at the church. Internment, West Point Cemetery, 80 N 4000 W, West Point, Utah.
