Dixie Lee Betters ObituaryNiagara- Dixie Lee Betters, 84, of Niagara, Wisc., passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Evergreen Meadows in Norway, Mich.
She was born May 18, 1940, in Stambaugh, Mich., daughter of the late Harold and Victoria Carlson. Dixie graduated from Kingsford High School. She met Lawrence "Larry" Betters on a blind date, and they were married on July 2, 1960, in Niagara.
Dixie was a very talented seamstress who could sew anything. Many friends and family members visited her home for alterations of all kinds. She made lots of pajamas for her grandkids and flannel shirts for the men in the family. Later, she repaired countless dog toys for her granddogs. Dixie was also skilled at embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, quilting, crocheting, and knitting.
Nothing gave Dixie more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing mother and an even more amazing grandmother. Dixie took her grandkids on many summer adventures to "Big Rock." She was a hands-on grandma who could be found playing on the living room floor with the grandkids or supervising tree climbing in her backyard. Dixie's family was always her first priority.
Dixie also served in her church for many years, most notably as the coordinator for funeral dinners. She enjoyed her Eve Circle group and made some lifelong friends there.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Carlson; two sons, Timothy (Melissa) Betters and Stephen (Lisa) Betters; one daughter, Vicki (Boyd) Morstad; six grandchildren, Christopher Betters, Amanda (Jason) Bowen, Toni (Alli Bialystock) Betters, Stephen (Morgan) Betters, Phillip (Emily Allen) Morstad and Rebecca (Chase) Opolka; four great-grandchildren, Allison Bowen, Greyson Bowen, Atlas Opolka and Marshall Betters; nephew, Brenden Carollo; and a very dear friend, Karen Klenke.
In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, after 59 years of marriage.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Memory Care staff at Evergreen Meadows and OSF Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Dixie.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wisc. Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Boyd Morstad will officiate. Burial will take place at the Niagara Cemetery at a later date.
