John Howard Betters, 64, left us peacefully on July 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at his daughter's house in Au Sable Forks, NY under the care of Hospice of the North Country, but he lived in Mooers for over 20 years. He was born on November 22, 1960, in Keene Valley, NY, to Howard and Edith Betters.
John devoted many years of his life to his work at Pactiv, where he served diligently as a shift supervisor until his retirement. An honorable veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Sergeant during Desert Storm. His commitment to his family and his work reflected his character as a hardworking individual who found great joy in providing for his loved ones.
In his free time he enjoyed his morning coffee while reading the newspaper, relaxing around bonfires, and watching movies. He held a special love for travel, especially to Germany, where he would visit his beloved in-laws, Kathy and Peter Ludwig.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Patterson; his sister Marcy Boynton; and niece Dorene Boynton.
John is survived by his children, Nikki Betters of Au Sable Forks, his son Jonathan (Samantha) Betters of Ellenburg Depot; his grandchildren Domonick Betters of Au Sable Forks and Aiden (Cassandra) Magoon of Mooers; great-grandchildren Ella White and Anika Magoon of Mooers; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
