With joy we Celebrate the life of LeAnna Betters, who was born on August 3, 1948 in Lake Charles,
Louisiana to Mrs. Dorothy Washington Betters and Mr. Albert Betters. She was reared in a loving,
close, strong Christian family and home. LeAnna's mother, Dorothy, and Aunt Lillie were
Communion Stewardesses. Hess Washington, her maternal grandfather, sang in the choir
and proudly, strongly led the choir in procession for Worship services. Her maternal
Grandmother, Anna Washington, who she was named after was known as a prayer warrior.
LeAnna, a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, LA, was baptized as an infant, grew up in,
and confirmed her Christian faith by accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior and LORD
at Warren United Methodist Church. She attended Nursing school.
LeAnna worked at the Lake Charles American Press, various refineries and
CARC until her retirement in 2020.
LeAnna joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she faithfully served, honored her Pastor and
promoted the congregation for many years. Likewise, when she joined Messiah Missionary Baptist
Church she continued to serve faithfully in these ways. LeAnna loved God and freely worshipped
HIM in whatever Christian service she attended. She served faithfully as a member of the choir,
Sunday School, Bible Study, where ever she saw a need or was asked. She joyfully prepared
during the week to attend Sunday worship services, Revivals, prayed for the Pastor, his family,
the congregation and her family and supported all Church events faithfully.
LeAnna had a joy for life and a fun sense of humor, loving to joke and make others laugh. She
always met people with a warm, strong greeting, a smile, and a willingness to catch up with
conversation. She was affectionally called "Le" by many of her friends. She enjoyed watching
westerns, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. LeAnna was always supportive
and proud of the accomplishments of others, freely offering compliments and encouragement.
Although there is sadness in our hearts, we grieve with Blessed Assurance that on Thursday,
February 27, 2025, THE LORD Jesus fulfilled HIS promise to LeAnna in John 14:3 "And if I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there
ye may be also." With exceeding GREAT JOY, LeAnna was a passenger on that sweet Chariot and
taken home at no charge because the price had already been paid by JESUS' precious blood shed
on Calvary's cross for the forgiveness of her sins and ours! HALLELUJAH! Thank you, JESUS!
LeAnna was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Albert Betters, Mrs. Dorothy Washington
Betters; brothers: Alvin Betters, Calvin Betters, sister: Mrs. Geneva Betters Vital; son: Stafford
Keith (Diane) Betters.
LeAnna leaves to cherish countless precious memories: her sister, Mrs. Sadie Betters Jenkins;
six nieces: Pressanna Golden, Bishop Erica R. Jenkins, Jennifer (Donald) Hollman, Rhonda
(Herman) Williams, Petula (Allan) Glaspie, and Arlecia (Dexter) Hamilton; her beloved, loving
cousins; relatives, brothers and sisters in Christ and friends.
LeAnna's visitation will be on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 9 am – 10 am, and her Celebration
of Life Worship Service at 10 am at New Providence Baptist Church located at 307 Deshotel Lane
in Lake Charles, LA. Rev. Robert L. Owens, Pastor of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in Lake
Charles, LA will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of James
Funeral Home.
