Dixie I. Galloway passed away November 18, 2022. She was born December 4, 1929 in Amarillo, TX to Frank D. and Elva O. Thompson. The family left Texas to settle in Oklahoma City in 1935. Her father, an entrepreneur, formed Capitol Stage Equipment Company. Dixie attended schools in Oklahoma City, graduating from Classen High School. She then earned a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree with a major in Psychology from Oklahoma State University. Dixie was an enthusiastic OSU Cowboy fan. Her marriage to George C. Roth Il produced two sons, Brian A. and Barry A. Roth, both born in Bartlesville, OK.
Before the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1961, Dixie was President of Jayceettes, an auxiliary of Oklahoma Jaycees. Dixie was active in both sons' activities, including being an officer in PTA organizations for 14 years, a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for 5 years, and an organizer and leader in a reading program at Coronado Heights Elementary School. During her sons' latter school years she began her political activities in her beloved Republican Party. She joined the Tri-City Republican Women's Club and served for over 40 years, in every office, including a total of 10 years as President.
Prior to her second marriage to Tom A. Galloway in 1978, she earned a master's degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond. Both Dixie and Tom were proud members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where Dixie was honored as a 50-year member in 2012. She was class reporter for Upper Room Class for the St. Luke's Church newsletter for more than 20 years. Dixie and Tom toured Alaska and west Caribbean areas by cruise ships; and in 2001 toured Greece and Turkey to visit sites where St. Paul traveled on one of his evangelical journeys.
Dixie's volunteerism in the Republican Party of Oklahoma County included serving for 40 years on the Oklahoma County Executive Committee in various offices, serving on the Board of Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women for 40 years, and as Chair of Oklahoma County Voter Registrars. She was proud to serve as an elected delegate to the National Republican Convention which nominated Ronald Reagan for President, and as an Oklahoma Presidential Elector in the 1996 election. She was the recipient of many awards for her volunteerism and service in the Oklahoma County and State Republican Parties.
In 2017, the Oklahoma County Republican Party presented to Dixie and Tom a Flying Eagle trophy - a "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" for volunteerism.
Dixie was preceded in death by her son, Barry, who died in 2017 and her husband, Tom, who died in 2018 after 39 years of a loving marriage. Dixie is survived by her son, Brian Roth, Salina, KS; a cousin, Carol Brown, FL; sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson; and nieces, Sharon Myers and Susan Rupe, all of Oklahoma City.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 28, 2:00pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
