Dixie Nell (Mize) Jones, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on August 8, 1945, in Rotan, Texas, Dixie dedicated her life to her family and her career, working in many facets at helping others to include the Rotan Independent School District and West Texas Centers.
Dixie was known for her spicy, sassy personality and her deep love of family. She was an avid reader who found joy in her life stories and sharing them with others. Her passion for sewing led her to create beautiful clothing for her children, a reflection of her nature. Dixie had a special fondness for kittens, which brought her much joy over the years.
She is survived by her children, Sherrie Davis, William David King and wife, Constance; Kellie Hills and husband, Ernest. Dixie was a proud “GRANDMOTHER” to Korey Marklin, Kerrie King, Mordecai King, Haylie and Donny Gatewood, Stephen King and Kailee Smith, Andrew Davis, Summer and Bradley Hutcheson, Kaycie and Gage Patrick, Erriael and Garak MaChado, Kaleb Steiner, Mari Rameriz, Kendall King, Jahzlyn Davis and Acelyn Davis. Her legacy continues through her “Great-Babies”, Cloe Ortiz, Marcus Ortiz, Laynie Harrington, Addilyn Brown, Barrett Gatewood, Landon Acuna, Greycen Brown and Dallas King. She is survived by her sister Jo and Dearl Messick and numerous nieces and nephews. She was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two great grandsons in April 2026.
Dixie is preceded in death by her husband and true love, Charlie Jones; her parents, Clarence Elmer and Jesse Lois (Brannon) Mize; her daughters, Tammie Sue King and Merrie Elaine King; Great-Baby, Maelie Rynn Hutcheson; her brothers, Rodger, Kendard, Steve and Elwood Mize, along with sisters, Vonnie (Tootsie) Sears and Francis Smith.
The visitation for Dixie will be held on February 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Weathersbee Ray Funeral Home, located at 111 N McKinley Ave, Rotan, Texas, 79546. Burial will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Dixie Nell (Mize) Jones will be lovingly remembered for her nurturing spirit, unwavering strength and her humor that she brought to everyone who knew her. Although she was a petite woman, she was larger than life. Mother you will forever be loved and missed -Sherrie, David and Kellie
