Dixie Justine (Pat) Smith Odom was born on December 21, 1932 in Merkle, TX to Aaron Ozier and Erma Logan Smith. At a young age the family moved to Linden, TX to live on a farm and when Pat was 5 years old, they moved to Marshall, TX where she attended school at the old North Side School and then to Sam Houston in the third grade, graduating from Marshall High School in 1951. Pat attended Lon Morris College and received an Associates degree in music. She married Edwin Odom III on August 23, 1951 in Marshall and with her husband, who was in the United States Air Force, moved to Highlands, NJ where he was stationed. They lived in New Jersey and New Hampshire while he was in the service. They later lived in Lawton, OK, Havre De Grace, MD and Aberdeen, MD for five years. While in Lawton, OK, their first child was born. The second child was born in MD and the third child was born in Marshall, TX. Once they returned to East Texas in 1962, Pat was appointed Post Master in Karnack and served there for 34 years before retiring in 1996. She then became a real estate sales professional in 1997 and sold real estate for Clay Allen and Company and also Coldwell Banker Lenhart for over 14 years. Her next career was as an ambassador for Sullivan Funeral Home. Pat loved her children, her husband and her church. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marshall, TX. She was a Deacon, a member of the choir for many years and a member of Zula Boone where she served many offices. Her life was well lived and she was well loved. She is survived by her son, John Patrick Odom and wife Bobbie of Longview, TX; her daughter, Elizabeth Odom Cooper and her husband Brent of Dallas, TX; her granddaughters, Misty Odom of Austin, TX, Tracie Odom of Longview, TX, Ashley Odom of Longview, TX, Amy Griffith of Longview, TX, as well as a special step-granddaughter, Megan Sesvold; her grandsons, Harrison Cooper and Hayden Cooper of Dallas, TX; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Frodsham, Anastyn Elizabeth Griffith, Camryn Claire Griffith, Michael Allen Odom, Billy Dawson, Maybri Sesvold and Matthew Sesvold. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Odom III; her oldest son, Edwin Odom IV, her parents and her grandparents. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Hawkins Creek Assisted Living and to the staff at Marshall Hospice for the love and care they so tenderly provided. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Pat's memory to Marshall Hospice of East Texas, 111 East Burleson Street, Marshall, TX 75670; Highway 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 W. Marshall Avenue, Longview, TX 75604 or The Pet Place, 1901 Jefferson Avenue, Marshall, TX 75670. Visitation will be held at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 5pm-7pm. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 2:00pm at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 501 Indian Springs Drive, Marshall, TX 75672 with Dr. Rusty Rustenhaven officiating. Private burial will be at Algoma Cemetery, Marshall, Texas.
