Nancy Nell Palmer, of Marshall, passed away Monday morning, September 29, 2025, at her home with her loving husband of 60 years, Charles "Charley" Oliver Palmer, by her side. A memorial service will be held at Hallsville Church of Christ October 10th at 10:00 A.M.
Nancy was born in Marshall to Hick and Nellie Shoults. Growing up on a farm, she developed a love for hard work, family, faith and of course: horses. Known for her quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Nancy often brought laughter to those around her, most times without even trying.
Nancy and Charley lived in Bryan Texas from 1966 to 1993, Both employed by Texas A&M University. Nancy was a lab technician in the soil and crop sciences department. Besides being an avid barrel racer, She and Charley trained quarter race horses, racing in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Among their many wins were the "Jal Ranch" futurity in Del Rio, Texas and "The Heart of Texas" futurity in Goliad, Texas
She was also a gifted gardener, nurturing the most beautiful four o'clocks and hibiscus. Alongside her green thumb, she was surprisingly skilled at catching gophers in her and Charley's backyard. No gophers stood a chance at getting close to the roots of her hearty hibiscus! Nancy regularly played golf at Oak Lawn Golf course in Marshall and loved cheering on the Texas Rangers every baseball season.
She married the love of her life, Charley Palmer, in 1965 and together they built a life of devotion, faith, and love. Nancy was a devoted wife, a cherished sister, and a beloved aunt and as she said "the greatest aunt." Though she did not have children of her own, she found so much joy in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and their families.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Hick Shoults; her mother, Nellie Shoults; and her brother, Bobby Shoults.
She is survived by her husband, Charley Palmer; her sister and lifelong best friend, Becky "Blatis" Bibb, and Becky's son, Sherrod Bibb, along with Sherrod's children, Josie and Carter Bibb and their mother, Pamela Bibb, who was also close to Nancy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda Shoults; Brenda's son, Robbie Shoults, and wife, Tracy; and Robbie's children-Erin Marino and her husband, Jack; Krysta Coleman and her husband, Matt, and their children, Drew and Sloane; and Hunter Shoults and his wife, Stacia, along with their children, Cooper and Barrett, who lovingly knew her as "Nanna," brother in law Jimmy Palmer and sons Jim Kirk and Josh Palmer and their wives and children, brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Ruth Ward and family, and adopted daughters Missie Hussey and Anna Morton.
Nancy's life was a reflection of her faith in Jesus Christ, her devotion to her family, and her remarkable, joyful personality. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
