Muncie – Dixie D. Smith, 79, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Muncie on June 11, 1943, the daughter of John and Ethel (Cooper) Whitmire.
Dixie worked as a housekeeper for Applegate Apartments for several years before working as a sales-associate for Goodwill.
She was an avid bingo player and loved vacations to Tennessee. Dixie also enjoyed her soap operas.
Survivors include her children, Jackie Hines (Matthew) and April Smith; grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor (Gerald), Ashley Arens (Dylan), Amber Farokhnia (Doug), Zachary Taylor, AJ Phipps (Destiny), Jack Taylor (Jaiden) and Braxton Hines; her great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Jaxsyn, Briley, Timothy, Barrett, Raylee, Aletheia, Eli and Justice; a sister, Sue Upchurch (Bill); along with several nieces and nephews, including Cindy Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith; grandson, Dylan Hines; sisters, Geri Thornbro and Mary Victory; brothers, Dave Cooper; Billy, Richard and Roy Whitmire; special brother-in-law, Floyd Smith; along with her parents.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
