Dolores Aquila Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory - Huntsville on Aug. 13, 2025.
Our beloved, Dolores Intile Aquila, 88, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on August 10th 2025. Dolores was born on November 1st, 1936, to Earnest and Jeanette Intile in New York City, NY. After graduating from Cathedral High School in New York City, she went on to study nursing. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as a nurse in various departments including surgery, gynecology and mother/baby. On July 12, 1958, Dolores married Vincent Aquila and went on to have four children, Bruce, Jeffrey, Vincent, and Mary.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, and her parents, Ernest and Jeanette. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Laura), Jeffrey (Hilda), Vincent (Julia); her daughter, Mary; her grandchildren, Angie Aerrola, Benjamin (Fernando), Abigail, and Madeline; her great-grandchildren, Lauren and Steven; and her brother, Richard (Paula). Dolores also leaves behind a supportive group of nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Dolores was known for her warmth, generosity, and the undeniably loving spirit she brought to the world. She touched the life of every person she met. Inspirational, kind, loving, funny, and-most notably-feisty, she lived each day to the fullest. Her greatest joys were raising her children, spending time with family and friends, and serving as a dedicated nurse for over 35 years at Medical Center, Humana Hospital, and then Huntsville Hospital. In her nursing career, she comforted and cared for countless patients, often leaving such a lasting impression that people would stop her in public to say she was the most compassionate nurse they had ever known.

Dolores also loved to dance, especially line dancing during her retirement years. She found joy in reading, chatting with friends, and, to the delight of many, cooking delicious Italian meals. Perhaps she was best known as a prayer warrior among her family and friends. A devoted Catholic, her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she attended Mass as often as she could.

Dolores' legacy is one of kindness, empathy, and a deep, reverent love for God. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Truly, she was one of a kind.

Services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Friday, August 15th at 1:00pm and visitation from 12:00pm to 12:45pm beforehand. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Avenue, Huntsville, AL, 35816.

So sad to hear of Delores' passing. She was a sweet and cheerful lady and always had a smile and a kind word. She is now resting peacefully in the hands of our Lord.

Dolores was always ready to give you a big smile and a hug. I did not know her outside of Church but I loved and respected her so much that I wanted her to Be my Dad´s wife after my mother died. God had a different plan. I love and will miss her as a dear fellow parishioner.

Danny and I cherish The times that we drove D to church in the 55 Chevy, which she called her chariot. What an amazing woman D is. I know that she is seated with the angels, loving on everyone with all her little gifts and prayer cards and Amazing smile. She filled so many lives with joy. We will miss her on earth, but so grateful that she is in heaven at peace and rest with our Father. We express our condolences to the family and will continue to pray with you through this time.

Vince and family,
We are so saddened by the loss of our "Little D." We loved her so much. We will all pray for her as she so often prayed for us. I will never forget her giving my kids potato chips during mass (that she had in her purse) and her sitting right next to them crunching away. I looked at her, and she just shrugged her shoulders with a big grin on her sweet face. The girls always wanted to sit right next to her at Mass. She was a gem and I'm so glad we have her up there praying us up. Your family is in our prayers. Go have bread and Nutella in heaven Little D! And save some for us!!!

With much love,
Derek, Jessica, Natalie and Evie Mayer
