Dolores Rose (Barnhart) Cook, 90, of Midland Park,NJ, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with her family by her side. Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, she attended Public School No. 20 and graduated from Eastside High School. In 1961, she married James W. Cook, and they settled in Midland Park, NJ, where they raised their two sons.

While raising her sons, she worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses; eventually, retiring from Alexander Hamilton Printing in Paterson after dedicating 15 years to the company. Later, Dolores found her true calling as a crossing guard for the Borough of Midland Park, faithfully serving from 2001 until her retirement in 2018. She thoroughly enjoyed her work, taking great pride in ensuring the safety of the children and connecting with families and neighbors every day. Dolores enjoyed arts and crafts, especially ceramics. She had a gift for mathematics, beautiful award-winning penmanship, a talent for finishing crossword puzzles, and always enjoyed a good political debate. She always had a warm smile, caring heart, and exhibited a wicked sense of humor. Her true passion was her love of all animals. Dolores will be remembered for her devotion to her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed.

Dolores was the beloved wife of the late James W. Cook and a devoted mother to William F. Cook (and his wife, Mariruth) and James W. Cook, Jr. (and his fiancée, My-Hanh Retherford).

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dolores can be made to the Midland Park Police Dept. midlandparknj.gov, the Midland Park Ambulance Corps midlandparkac.org, and/or local animal shelter of your choice.
