Dolores Van Groningen

Dolores ("DeeDee") Van Groningen went to be with her Lord and children on
October 5, 2025, just shy of her 92nd birthday. She was born Dolores Ormonde on
October 21, 1933, in Hanford, California to Joaquin and Lena Ormonde. She
graduated from Hanford Highschool in 1951. She married Fred Northington in
Visalia and had two children, Bret and Lisa. She moved with Fred to Pomona and
raised her children.
Dolores moved back to Hanford in the 1960s with her children and worked for many
years at Kings Ro Ford, where she met lifelong friends and enjoyed her work.
She later met Eimert Van Groningen, the love of her life, and the two were married
in 1989. Eimert and Dolores traveled by land and sea. They loved Laughlin and
traveling in their RV with Eimert's brother and wife, Al and Claudine. When not
traveling Dolores enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and hosting
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Her grandchildren fondly remember her
Portuguese stuffing.
Dolores and Eimert later retired and moved to Pismo Beach where Dolores enjoyed
walking on the beach and to Steamers of Pismo where her granddaughter, Whitney,
worked to visit and have a glass of chardonnay. Everyone at Steamers knew Vava
DeeDee. She was their resident grandma.
Dolores loved walks, baseball, Hallmark movies, and country music. She knew
every word to every George Strait song. She loved to jitter bug, line dance, and go
wine tasting. She had an infectious smile and was full of love and life. She regularly attended Saint Paul's Church in Pismo Beach and St. Brigid's and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Hanford for many years.
Dolores is survived by her two grandchildren, Whitney Northington Barnick, her
husband Nicholas and their two children, and Jared Northington, his wife Elizabeth
and their two children; her nieces Sondra Koelewyn, Erin Ormonde, Alyn Gilkey,
and Lee Vickers and their families; and her step grandson, Jeremy Van Groningen
and his family.
Dolores was preceded in death by her children, Bret Northington and Lisa Brown,
her husband Eimert Van Groningen, parents Joaquin and Lena Ormonde, brother
Frank Ormonde, sister-in-law Phyllis Ormonde, and her sister Vivian Ellis.
She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 am at
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hanford, California with a reception
immediately following. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Valley Children's Hospital in Dolores' name.
