Dolores "Dee" Johnson

Dolores Johnson, born in 1925 in Minnesota, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the age of 100.

Dolores began her civil service career in 1944 working for the Civil Aeronautics Administration (the predecessor to the FAA). It was during this time she met Army Sergeant Donald Johnson, who would become her devoted husband. As a proud Army wife, Dolores embraced a life of travel and adventure, joining Donald on overseas assignments in Venezuela, Japan, and South Korea, while returning in between these assignments to Fort Lewis, Washington.

After Donald's retirement from the Army, the couple eventually settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, before relocating in 1971 to Ridgecrest, California, with Pacific Airlines. Shortly thereafter, Dolores was widowed. With strength and determination, she earned her AS degree from Cerro Coso Community College and then resumed her civil service career, ultimately retiring from NAWC-WD China Lake.

Dolores had a lifelong love of the outdoors. She enjoyed nature photography, hiking, cross-country skiing, and road trips. She often set out on spontaneous day trips along Highway 395, up to Walkers Pass, and to see the brilliant spring poppy blooms. Her journeys also took her on multiple trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and Jamaica, and she cherished visits to Sedona, Arizona, to spend time with her sister. Remarkably, Dolores remained active, hiking and doing aerobics, well into her 80s.

She was a member of the Saint Ann Catholic Parish and was a proud alumna of the all-girls St. Margaret's Catholic High School in Minnesota, class of 1943.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Johnson, and sisters Marilyn "Mary" McLouth and Bernice "Bunny" Polley.

She is survived by her children Richard (Sheri) Johnson, Annalee Lahman, and Diana (Paul) Prewitt; grandchildren Leslie Guedry, Charlotte Harris, Christina Lahman, Brittany Lahman, Matthew Johnson, and Sarah Johnson; seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sister Jeanette "Pat" Jeter (age 97), nephews Stan Hoff and William Polley, niece Susan McAdams, and many other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 26, at 11am at St. Ann Church. A reception lunch will follow in the parish hall.

Dolores will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, love of nature, and her unwavering faith.
