Dolores Darlene Kiser

Dolores Darlene Kiser, 86, of Jerome, Idaho passed away March 31, 2024. She was born June 30, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Ernest and Eva May Sharp Starr. 

Darlene had a long and adventurous life. She attended school through the 11th grade, and then began working with race horses at the San Anita Race Track in California in the mid 1950’s. She rode the washes around Los Angeles before the washes were concreted. During the 1960’s she belonged to a motorcycle club, Motor Maids of Salt Lake City. She went to the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota with her fellow members. 

In the early 70’s, she drove truck for Ore Laveal Trucking of Gooding, Idaho hauling livestock. She then took a job at Tupperware. In the 80’s she worked at the fish hatchery for Mike Green down the Blue Lakes Grade. During the ‘90s she worked at the Producers Livestock Yard, pushing cattle on horseback through the sale ring. She also worked at the Livestock Yards in Twin Falls, Burley, and Shoshone. 

She belonged to the Gooding Liberty Bells, a horseback club, as well as the Back Country Horseman and Thursday Sage Riders. She was a member of the Jerome Search and Rescue, Jerome Sheriff Mounted Posse, and the Jamboree Club. 

Darlene enjoyed gold prospecting at the GPAA Club in Stanton, Arizona and on a private claim at Rocky Bar. She was a hunter and hunted the Smoky Mountain Range and the Trinity Mountains. She was an archery champion in 1995 for the Stanley Jamboree in the Women’s Unlimited Category in which she won a Silver and a Bronze belt buckle. 

Her winter snow skiing adventures took her to Steamboat, Breckinridge, Keystone, and Arapaho Basin in Colorado, and Grand Targhee, Pomerelle, Sun Valley, and Soldier Mountain in Idaho. As an avid fly fisherman, she fished Magic Reservoir, Mormon Henry’s, and Island Park in Idaho and Lake Pyramid in the Reno area. In 2000, she was a part of a crew called the Shovel Brigade that reopened a road in Jarbidge, Nevada. She also rode back country horseback 200 miles a year spanning the Stanley Basin, White Clouds, White Top Mountains, Soldier Mountain and the South Hills.                           

Darlene is survived by her husband, Monty L. Kiser of Jerome; and son, Robert Pettersen. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Mary Ann.
