Dolores Regina (Allison) Lackie, most affectionately known as "Nana," found peace on October 12, 2025, at the age of 74, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Albany, NY, Dolores was the daughter of Gerard J. Allison and Regina (Snyder) Allison and grew up alongside her brother, Gerard P. Allison. After graduating from Albany High School, she went on to work for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Over the years, she also held positions at Grand Union, Lord & Taylor, and Bed Bath & Beyond - retiring twice, but never really slowing down. She approached every task with determination, reliability, and pride - never one to do anything halfway. In her careers, as in her life, she gave her all, day in and day out.
In 1973, she married Kenneth J. Lackie of Athens, NY. Together they built a life in Coxsackie, raising their two children and creating decades of memories - including many "enjoyable" day trips to the island, despite Dolores's well-known fear of water.
Spontaneous and always up for going for a drive - whether it was a quick trip to the store or a longer adventure with no particular destination in mind, time with family was always Dolores's greatest joy. Conversations with her were always lively, especially since she never wore her hearing aids, much to the gentle frustration and amusement of those around her. Yet, she was the best kind of listener, the one who would wait up just to hear how your day went, listening with warmth and genuine interest.
Dolores showed her love through food, gestures of support, and fiercely loyal devotion to those she cared for. She loved cooking and baking for others, no one ever left her home hungry. Her famous pineapple upside-down cake was the highlight of many gatherings. She liked her bacon extra crispy, carried sugar in her purse "just in case" the diner didn't have enough, and always ended her day with a warm cup of hot cocoa.
Dolores was the heart of her family, and her two granddaughters were her greatest pride and joy. From making "special stuff" toast- that only Nana could make just right - to eating McDonald's while watching the planes at the airport, she had a gift for turning everyday moments into cherished memories.
Dolores never met a stranger. A "serial hugger" and natural conversationalist, she had a gift for making everyone feel special. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Dolores would quite literally give you the shirt off her back. She loved all kinds of music and wasn't shy about bopping along when rap came on the radio. She especially loved the first snowfall of the season - so excited, in fact, that she would announce "It's snowing!!" to her family, no matter the hour.
She made a lasting impression on all those she met and leaves behind countless friends and a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love.
She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Lackie; her son Wesley Lackie, and his wife Elisha; and her beloved granddaughters, Caitlyn Lackie and Madelyn Lackie. She is also survived by her cousins, as well as nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her parents, Gerard and Regina; her husband Kenneth; and her brother, Gerard.
A graveside burial service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Cemetery, Route 385, Coxsackie. A Celebration of Life potluck will follow on Sunday, October 26th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Dolores's residence. In true Dolores fashion, both events may start a little later than scheduled- she wouldn't have it any other way. Guests are welcome to bring a dish - and a memory - to share.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dolores's name may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Logan Strong Foundation, two causes close to her heart.
