Dolores Mumper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Preston and Simons Mortuary - Riverside on Dec. 3, 2025.
Dolores, better known as Lorie, was born the eighth of twelve children to John and Marcelline Verwiel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her passions were many, but in particular, she loved the theater, both as an actor and as a spectator. She participated in many productions with Riverside Community Players and the Gallery Theater in Orange County. She also subscribed for 20 years to the South Coast Repertory Theater.

Lorie had a lifelong passion for fashion, as well as a love of cooking. She also had a green thumb, and her yard was a vision of color all year round.

She left the world after a lengthy struggle with pulmonary fibrosis, which she faced with courage and grace.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Greg; daughters Kathryn (Joe) and Anne (Joseph); her beloved grandchildren Isabel, Luke, and Henry; sisters Marcelline Cruzen, Kathleen Hamilton (John), Patricia Verwiel, Elizabeth Stralka (Al), and Mary Wagner; brother Paul Verwiel (Dondi); sister-in-law Judy Verwiel; and brother-in-law Robert Brown. She was preceded in death by her sister Virginia de Santis; brothers Joseph Verwiel, John Verwiel, William Verwiel, and Thomas Verwiel; brothers-in-law James Cruzen, Sandy Hansen, and Mark Wagner; and sister-in-law Nancy Brown.

She has many, many beloved nieces and nephews who adore her.

"May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." –William Shakespeare

In honor of Lorie's dramatic passions, an excerpt from Shakespeare's As You Like It:

"All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts…"

A funeral will be held in Lorie's honor on Friday, December 12, 2025, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4268 Lime St., Riverside, CA 92501.
