Funeral services for Dolores Tonn, 87, of Giddings will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Javier Toscano officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm.
Dolores was born on September 17, 1937, in Houston, Texas to Lawrence and Julia (Vogt) Pantel. She was baptized in October of 1937, at St. Joseph's Church in Houston and her first Holy Communion was in May of 1944. Dolores was confirmed in her Catholic Faith in May of 1949, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Houston.
Dolores married John Charles Tonn on November 15, 1958 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Houston. Dolores loved her family, friends and her church. Her hobbies included, painting, reading, traveling and especially playing cards with anyone who wanted to play! She was good at beating most people. She taught all of her grandkids and great grandkids how to play Rummy, Canasta, Hearts, Spades and Old Maid. Granny, loved and collected hearts and so much that she signed every card and letter with a "heart" as she loved her family and friends deeply.
Dolores passed away from cancer at her home on Saturday, September 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her two sons, Johnny Tonn, Jr. and Alfred Lawrence Tonn; one brother, Larry Pantel, his wife Jackie Pantel; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Tonn Wolfe, and her parents, Lawrence and Julia Pantel.
Dolores is survived by her husband, John Tonn of Giddings and her daughter, Julie Tonn of Giddings. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Krystal Creek and Blake Carter and her children, DeLaney Walther and Skylar Walther and his girlfriend Cadence Mouton of Giddings; Taylor Creek and his wife, Jennifer and their sons, Cutter Creek and Cannon Creek of Giddings; Kristina Creek and her three daughters, Jaci Gracia, Mia Garcia and Claire Garcia of Giddings; Katelyn Fails and her children, Ryker Dolores Fails and Jake Fails of San Angelo; Tiffany Tonn and fiancé JT Foyil, their two sons, Isaac Ramiez and Kurt John Foyil of Manor; Alfred (Lars) Lawrence Tonn II and his wife, Emily and baby boy of Bastrop, and Joshua Vela and daughter Giulanna Vela of Austin. Two brothers, six sisters, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Serving as pallbearers will be Taylor Creek, Cutter Creek, Skylar Walther, Daniel Garcia, Alfred (Lars) Tonn and Joshua Vela.
Memorials may be given to St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings or to the charity of one's choice.
