Domenic Gizzi Obituary

Domenic Anthony Gizzi
August 22, 1955 - May 28, 2025
Domenic Anthony Gizzi, resident of Petaluma, was involved in a bike accident and passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was 69 years old.
Dom was born on August 22, 1955 in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Carmella "Millie" (Grande) and Antonio "Tony" Gizzi and was the eldest of 5 children. Raised in Revere, Massachusetts, he spent his youth driving to the hoop on basketball courts, blasting loud music, and eating Kelly's Roast Beef at Revere Beach.
Dom graduated from Boston State College, where he earned a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. It was there that he met a beautiful foreigner who was sharpening her "pen" in the pencil sharpener. Her name was Micky, and they fell in love quickly- after just 3 months of dating, he proposed over the phone so they could spend their lives together.
He joined the Army National Guard where his leadership qualities earned him role as Platoon leader. He eventually found his way into the FBI, where he served for 33 years, starting in Boston and eventually serving as Administrative Officer for the San Francisco field office. He was a critical thinker, meticulous note taker and an expert problem solver. There's not much he could reveal about his job, but he notably helped construct a national command center immediately after 9/11, assisted during the Polly Klass investigations, and worked behind the scenes to aid in countless investigations.
Dom loved to exercise and was a lifelong athlete. He started as a devoted basketball player in his youth and took up running and completed 5 marathons - including the granddaddy of them all, the Boston Marathon- twice! He coached his kids youth soccer teams in Petaluma and mentored many aspiring marathoners and athletes. In retirement, he took up biking and eventually rowing.
He was known for his generosity with his time, his listening ear, and a memory like no other. If he met you once, he would remember your name and would always say hello. He was magnetic and drew people in with his Bostonian accent and larger than life personality. When he spoke, people listened.
He loved his family deeply and had a profound faith in God which he practiced weekly attending church with Micky. He would spend time watching his grandkids sporting events any chance he could. He visited wineries around Sonoma and Napa Counties and loved to play tour guide for visitors. He loved music and movies. He spent his days drinking coffee with friends and family, exercising at the gym and going on frequent bike rides.
Domenic was the beloved husband of Micky Gizzi to whom he was married for 46 years. He was the devoted father to Domenic Gizzi Jr and wife Theresa; Jihan Cerda and husband Joe, and Joelle Whalen and husband Drew. He was cherished by his 6 grandchildren-Joey, Jaden, Joya, Kellan, Farris, and Roma. He was the loving brother to Anthony Gizzi, the late Maria Charles and her husband Danny, Mark Gizzi and wife Mina, and Chris Gizzi and wife Linda.
Friends and family are invited to gather in honor of Dom during visiting hours are being held at Parent-Sorenson Mortuary on Wednesday June 4th from 4-7pm, with a rosary prayer beginning at 6pm.
A funeral mass will be held in his honor at 1:30pm on June 5th at St James Church at 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway, with a reception at Petaluma Elks Lodge 901 at 2105 S. McDowell Blvd.

Devastated to hear about Dom. I worked with him in both the Boston and San Francisco offices. He truly was a great person. Always smiling. Always upbeat. You all had my wife and I over for a Super Bowl party when we lived in Rohnert Park. Such a great and loving family. So sorry this has happened. We have been robbed of a great one.

Dear Gizzi family,
My name is Jill Kinney. I am the founder and chairman of Active Wellness, where Domenic was my absolute favorite member. It seemed like we connected every time I visited the club and I looked forward to hearing about his rowing workouts (which were incredibly impressive). He was a joyous man and a model for so many. He will be sorely missed. Sending my deepest condolences.

To Dom's Family: I am so sorry for your loss. My name is Amy Kaelin. I live in Arizona now, but was a member at the gym where Dom was a member in Petaluma for many years. I would talk to Dom regularly as he was usually on the rowing machine. We would have some great, funny conversations. He truly was one of the nicest, most friendly individuals I have ever met. I am heartbroken for you. The world has lost a wonderful person who always had a smile on his face. My condolences, sincerely, Amy Kaelin

I am so truly sorry for your families loss . Dom was a friend I had met and enjoyed telling stories and hearing about his family the last 10 years at Active. He was kind and a wonderful listener. A true light that brightened my day when I saw him. Hearing this news makes me so sad for all of you he loved so dearly and he just beamed when he spoke of his family. God Bless.
